The Mount of Transfiguration event that Peter, James, and John physically sensibly witnessed was intended to deepen and strengthen their faith in the identity and mission of Jesus the Son of God. They needed that experience since their faith was about to be shaken and tested to the max. It is extremely likely that we believers alive today will have our faith shaken and tested to the max in the next 5-10 years. The prophetic scriptures to which "we do well to take heed (II Peter 1:19)" should be alive with light and warmth "in our hearts" now. Experience is what Peter is talking about. The kind of experience the two walkers had on the Emmaus road had: "Did not our hearts burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened the scriptures?"--that is what he is talking about when Peter references "the Day Star rising in your heart" while the Holy Spirit unfolds before you the glories of the coming kingdom.
