In the race of life, everyone blames it on burn out.
In the race on road, marathoners call it hitting the wall.
In the race of faith, Christians are cautioned against growing weary and losing heart.
It seems we often grow faint and weak and feeble when the course is steep or the Father's hand is on us.
Let's stop and read Hebrews 12:12-17 together.
"Therefore" (v.12) … In light of all of verses 1-11, but particularly the teaching on God's discipline (vv.5-11) the writer of Hebrews has some instructions in light of of the race of faith and the discipline of God and the endurance required so that we all finish well.
The Greek text features three plural, imperative verbs (strengthen, make straight, pursue), which suggest three coaching points for the church so that we can all finish well and finish together. 1. Straighten your infirmities. (v.12) 2. Straighten your paths. (v.13) 3. Straighten your relationships. (vv.14-17)
