When Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the temple of Solomon in 586 BC, two things came to an end in Judah. First with the Ark of the Covenant gone, the priesthood could no longer sprinkle the blood of the atonement lamb on the mercy seat. At the same time, with the removal of Zedekiah as king, there will never again be a king sitting on the throne of David, until Jesus Christ takes His seat on that throne in the future. As Ezekiel says, “thus says the Lord God,' Remove the turban, and take off the crown; this will be no more the same. Exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high. 'A ruin, a ruin, a ruin, I shall make it. This also will be no more, until He comes whose right it is; and I shall give it to Him.'
