Proverbs 18:9 Devotional The Waste of Laziness July 18,2021 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster: Proverbs 18:9. Solomon shows the close comparison to a slacker and someone who is wasteful or destructive. The word "brother" carries the idea of "one with like attributes and tendencies." A slothful person has the same attributes as a great waster or destroyer. A lazy worker is not only unproductive, he or she is destructive. Work that is half-done or poorly done, is destructive and wasteful. The sluggard's presence on the job is worse than his absence from the job because his unwillingness to fulfill his responsibilities and do them properly become costly for those who are depending upon him. The mistakes that are made create unnecessary stress and work for other employees, additional expenses for the employer, or accidents for those who purchase and use a product or services that are sold. Slothful people waste time and resources. Our work should be the same whether we are working in isolation or with the boss standing directly behind us. God expects us to be diligent in our effort rather than giving in to the temptation to coast by on less than our best. Knowing that your work is a reflection of your testimony as a child of God, diligently do your best in every part of your work.
