While the beginning of this letter to the Hebrews is filled with doctrinal truths about our Lord Jesus, we are given very little information as to the context of the letter: who wrote it, to whom was it written, and why. But here, as chapter 2 opens, we hear clearly, the inspired writer's significant concern. He is concerned for the souls of those who are receiving this letter. In fact, verse one of chapter two indicates that his primary concern is NOT an intellectual exposition of the Old Testament Scriptures, but a spiritual examination of the hearts of his readers. His primary concern is of a pastoral nature. This writer was a true shepherd of souls. He desires that his readers cling to words of the Son. Thus, his point in these first four verses is that there is no escape from the eternal wrath of God if one neglects the only means of salvation which comes through the word of the Son confirmed by the Father and the Spirit.
