He was unsure whether he would live or die at the time that he is writing his letter to the Philippians.
Whether Paul lived or died his desire was that Christ would be magnified in his body whether by life or by death v 20.
We as Christians should have the same mindset.
Paul lived his life in order to glorify Jesus Christ. Paul desired that people would see Christ’s through his life.
When you put a magnifying glass on a small flower you see what is largely unseen to the naked eye. What you see is structure and design that forms the beautiful flower.
When people look upon the Christian they should really see a life designed and shaped by God to magnify the beauties of Christ to a lost world.
People should not just see Christians as a moral people, as an ethical people, we should be both moral and ethical but there should be something about our lives that lifts up the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do people see Jesus Christ in you?
When people come across you, do they see the love of Christ reaching out to them?
When people meet you do they see the wisdom of Christ working through you?
When people meet you do they see that your life bears a resemblance to the character and quality of the life that Jesus Christ lived when he walked upon this earth.
Paul knew that it was a possibility that he could die at the hands of his Captors. Yet while he was ever alive he would live for Christ and if he died he knew that that would be a gain to him.
Paul knew that if he lived on in this life it would mean that that there would be more fruit for his labour.
