There was no water there, and grumbling and complaining broke out again among the people and escalated into open quarreling with Moses and testing God. The first part of the chapter ends with a haunting question: Is the LORD among us or not? The people of God must learn that God is always with us and the events that follow seem intended to make that point. Soon after the miracle of water from the Rock, the people of God were attacked by the Amalekites... If you identify yourself with the God of the Bible, you should expect attacks from modern-day Amalekites, too!
