When we are told in Matthew 24:13 that 'he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved,' what precedes this warning? 'And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.' The children of Israel did not want to go possess the Promised Land because of the spies' report: They said, 'Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart... (Deuteronomy 1:28). In our text, I Kings 19, Elijah is ready to die because it appears to him that no one else is standing for the Lord.
