The Ascension is often overshadowed by the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But in the Bible, the Ascension of Jesus Christ is absolutely essential to His exultation to the Father’s right hand in all authority and power. The Lord also ascended so that He would pour out upon His people the promised Holy Spirit (Acts 2:33). In this passage, the coming of the promised Holy Spirit occurred on the day of Pentecost. As we work thru the verses of the text, we’ll consider three points: the Powerful Presence of the Holy Spirit (vv. 1-4); the Proclamation by the believers (vv. 5-11); and the perplexity of the crowd (vv. 12-13).
