Intro: Judah faced the invasion of two foreign armies. The enemy was at the gate. In answer, God promised Immanuel, the Messianic Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Of what good was the promise of a future king? The fulfillment, or the coming of Christ, would not be accomplished for another 700 years. Of what good was that promise to the very pressing need that Ahaz faced, as enemies were at the gate?” The answer lies in the faithfulness of God to his promise. He had promised the Messiah, the one who would save his people from their sin. Though that promise faced severe challenges through the years, God's word could be trusted. And though Ahaz might not have been able to foresee the exact form of deliverance God would bring, nevertheless, God had given his word. So sure was that word, that the promise of a future Davidic king ensured that God would keep his word.
