Great Sermon! Jeff, I agree with you that you must have the Spirit/Truth, Order, and Jesus must get all the glory in order to have the true workings of the Holy Spirit. I put the blame on the leaders of the church at Corinth if they did not enforce these guide lines after Paul gave them to them concerning the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But after Paul finished giving these guide lines at the end of chapter 14, He told the church to covet to prophesy and forbid not to speak in tongues. I do believe that mostly what you see today is confusion but I believe there are some churches that believe the same way you do concerning the true gospel and are try to follow Pauls guide lines to the letter giving Jesus the glory. But I have to admit we will never see them because of unbelief because we won't seek them. The primary reason but not the only reason gifts were given, is to edify others. Gifts are always other oriented. The verses I use to stand on for the cessation of the gifts today are my strongest argument for them. I hope we can agree to disagree on the topic of gifts for today and still be friends as I still have many that disagree with me and we are still friends. But I don't think anyone would call the church at Corinth an Apostate church because God had blessed them with so many gifts.
