Look at verse 10 -- For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. At the heart of the love of money is the craving for things we don't have — things God in his providence has not yet given to us. It's as simple as that and it's the same temptation the serpent enticed Eve with in the garden. He tempted her with something God had not given her. You see you can be a lover of money and not be rich, and you can be rich and not love money. The poor man can love money because he's always wanting something he doesn't have. The reset of verse 10 says It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. Friends the love of money can have eternal consequences.
