This sermon consists of 2 parts: 1.) Looking to the Lord Jesus as a prophet, setting a good example. 2.) Looking to Jesus' example and trying to follow it.
Jesus was confirmed as a prophet both in the beginning (John 4) of His ministry and at the end (Matthew 21) of His ministry.
Significant because Jesus is our prophet from God. Jesus did the works of a Prophet. Prophets addressed the problems of sin in a person's life in order to come to God and know the Truth.
A Prophet's work in the Old Testament was very simple: to preach God's Word, to display a godly example to follow and to perform miracles, all in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did all of these things.
Jesus Christ is both the center of the universe and the center of the Bible. He was Prophet, Priest & King. Jesus was the Christ, "the Anointed One". In the Bible, He is presented as a Prophet, sometimes as a Priest, sometimes as a King, sometimes as all 3.
Jesus' moral life truly loved God and truly obeyed God. His entire life was a life of trusting in God. This is the example we must strive to follow. |
