But judgement begins with the house of God my friends. The Lord expects more from His people.
Ultimately, John ends up thrown in prison because he rebuked Herod for having married his brother's ex-wife Herodius. The thing is, the king likes listening to John, but ultimately get's tricked by Herodius, through a daughter, into asking for John's head for her birthday. Thus he was beheaded.
John did not compromise…….. He had made his decisions. He had determined where he stood. He had chosen a side.
So, Jesus said, "there has not risen a greater man than John, but he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he." It is not about value that Jesus is speak-ing of here. It is about the power of the ministry. Once Jesus was crucified and rose again those who were serving Him in the power of the Spirit and with the Gospel on their lips would have a more powerful ministry than John.
John said, "repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." We can say, "repent and believe the Gospel, for the Kingdom of heaven is here!" |
