Peter ends the teaching of the letter by stressing the acceptance of the mighty hand of God. The things that happen to us in this life are not random or arbitrary. Every single thing that happens is because God was the cause of it, which means that we should accept it with humility and not rebel against what is happening. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble is not just a warning. It is a promise that if you humble yourself before God, He will show grace to you. The sufferings and difficulties in this life for a Christian is not because God is absent or negligent, it is because God cares for His children and He does what is best, which is not necessarily what they think is best. Even the church tends to minimize the spiritual aspects of things, but Peter's warning is for us to understand that the devil is like a roaring lion, so we must not ignore spiritual things, but rather trust God in them. God uses the suffering in this life to establish us for the next.
