Water is essential for life! You and I could live a month without food, but only a week without water. Our bodies are composed of approximately 65% water. But we not only need physical water to survive, but spiritual water, living water. Jesus, in John 4, meets a woman at Jacob's well to introduce her to living water that would forever quench her spiritual thirst. It would be a constant source of spiritual refreshment, springing up in her unto eternal life. He offers to give her a drink of this water, but He does not explain to her what this water is. That explanation is reserved for another group of people in Jerusalem at the Feast of Tabernacles. There, Jesus offers to them living water-- the Spirit of God! The outpouring of the Spirit at salvation satisfies our spiritual thirst, becomes a constant source of spiritual refreshment, is impossible to cap or contain, and springs up to everlasting life. And Jesus' invitation is still open for men and women to today to realize their spiritual thirst, that they are spiritually dehydrated, and come to Christ to drink freely of the water He gives.
