We have seen from Psalm 17:15 that one reason the believer will experience perfect bliss and complete satisfaction in Heaven is that he will behold God's face. God warned in Exodus 33:20 that “there shall no man see my face… and live.” This is true of mortals only, because Rev. 22:4 emphatically states that those who have been made immortal “shall see his face.”
In Heaven, we will see Jesus face to face, and with that very first glance, we will be instantaneously transformed into His likeness. This is the ‘beatific vision' of which the old theologians loved to speak. It will truly be a “happy-making sight,” the essence of Heaven, the perfection of understanding.
Do we all have the sincere desire of those Greeks who came to Philip and said, “Sir, we would see Jesus” (John 12:21). He will not turn away any who come to Him in sincerity (John 6:37). All who look to Him in faith shall “live” (Isa. 45:22). We shall all see God's face some day (Rev. 1:7). But when that moment arrives, will we be terrified or satisfied?
