Everyone goes through times of suffering and tribulation in their lives, and it is in these times that we desire to be comforted. In 2 Corinthians 1, Paul explains that true comfort only comes from God, who is "the God of all comfort." But the comfort that God offers can only be enjoyed by those who draw near to Him in their suffering with an attitude of praise and worship. Paul also says in this passage that the purpose of God's comfort in our lives is not as much for our benefit as it is to prepare us to be ready to comfort others in their afflictions.
