In 1 Peter 1:15-16, Christians are called by God to be holy as He is holy. In verse 17, Peter explains 4 principles that should motivate us to desire to be like God. He begins verse 17 with "if we call God our Father," indicating that believers have the right to address Him as such, but if He is truly our Father, then our desire should be to be like HIm. But God is also our judge, who judges all men impartially, which should contribute to the "fear" with which we address HIm and in which we should live this earthly life. Finally, we are reminded that this earth is not our home, and that we are but sojourners, a fact which should motivate us more toward the spiritual and less toward the material and carnal.
