If you enjoy modern film, you might almost be convinced that we are doomed to endure a dystopian future. A dystopian world is a future world in which practically everything, from government to environment, is bad. Yet Scripture teaches that while the world now may seem bad, the world to come is going to be good! Jesus offers His people salvation, glory, honor, and authority in the world to come. Our text's encouraging promise (Hebrews 2:5-9) is that our great salvation (v.3) qualifies us to rule with Jesus (v.8). Let's unpack it like this: i.) the angels now and the angels later (v.5); ii.) mankind now and mankind later (vv.6-8); creation now and creation later (vv.6-8); Jesus now and Jesus...forever (v.9)!
