The famous hymn-writer, Isaac Watts, penned many beautiful and inspirational lines. Among those lines are these: "Not all the blood of beasts on Jewish altars slain, could give the guilty conscience peace, or wash away the stain: But Christ, the heavenly Lamb takes all our sins away, a sacrifice of nobler name and richer blood than they. (Trinity Hymnal, 175) Watts expresses in verse the burden of the Book of Hebrews. The Old Testament shadows were important, but the reality and fulfillment in Christ surpasses all. As we come to the table today, it is good for us to remember the surpassing glory of what the Savior has accomplished for His people – once and for all time. – Pastor Schlegel
