Undeserved suffering, or suffering for doing right, is almost always questioned by its recipient as to the reason for it. In 1 Peter 3, we are instructed about this kind of suffering, in which Peter explains that it is actually a blessing when we respond to it with the right attitudes, the right actions, and the right angle (or perspective). Suffering as a consequence of wrongdoing should be expected, especially by Christians, since God chastises those He loves. But Peter says that undeserved and unexplained suffering is actually BETTER than suffering for wrongdoing, since it is an opportunity for us to experience the grace and power of God in our lives as we could not otherwise. And with that understanding in place, our response to undeserved suffering will be one of joy and praise. |
