Those persons who had believed in Samaria, when they heard the preaching of Philip, they had received Christ, they had been baptized with believer's baptism, and they had also been spiritually baptized by the Spirit and placed into the Universal body of Christ. But they had not yet received any of the greater gifts of the Spirit which would give them the power to minister in the church that was forming there. These gifts were bestowed upon the believers there in Samaria by the hands of the apostles, for their usefulness to Christ, in service to His Church, and for the furtherance of His kingdom. When the apostles laid their hands upon them, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, in this holy and wonderful way.
