INTRO: Over the years I have given a message from time to time to encourage on the fact that life is filled with trials and handling those by faith. Recently I went through a difficult week. That week we received the monthly Herald of His coming and it was filled with messages of encouragement. I began to think about that and to consider when I had last given a message on that.
At the same time I had come to a point in the Ephesian messages where I needed a lot of thinking time, and so I thought I would give a message or two to encourage. As I began to work on something, I thought, well, what I'm dealing with is suffering. Maybe now would be a good time to restudy this subject. How is a person to think about suffering? Why is there so much suffering? Many cannot see how, if there is a God, there can be so much suffering. Surely we all come to that question from time to time. Something tragic happens, and almost without thinking we say, "Why?" Why is there so much suffering? It is everywhere. It is in the world. It is in religion. It is in Christianity. It is everywhere.
