Jesus has just put Jerusalem on notice “your Messiah has come – He has come at last”. But that brings us to a question. “Which Messiah has come? Which Messiah is this?” Our text this morning confronts us with the two Messiahs of the Triumphal Entry. Jesus presents Himself to Jerusalem, in the first seven verses, as the humble Servant of Jehovah but thousands surround Him and reach for Him not as a servant but as a liberator…a conqueror. So the humble servant…or the conquering liberator... Is He the promised servant or is He the anticipated emancipator? Here is the lesson that I hope we take away from Mark this morning: Sometimes we fashion God in the image of our own expectations. But there is only one RIGHT answer and if you’re trying to fashion Jesus after your own image it will not work.
