On this Lord's Day before Memorial Day 2006 we pause to offer a Christian and Biblical reflection on this holiday. On the one hand, as Christians we want to be good citizens. On the other, we recognize that our true citizenship is in heaven.
We look to the story of David and his mighty men. They bring him water, but he pours it out.
David would not take what others gained at the risk of their lives and use it for his own personal gain. Rather he pours it out 'to the Lord.'
So should we with the freedom gained by those who have fought for liberty. We should not use our freedom selfishly, but pour out our lives to the Lord.
