Freedom is never free, but comes at a price which someone has to pay! And while most in America today would claim to be free, yet spiritually, they are not! They are in need of a Great Emancipator, a Savior who can set them free. Jesus Christ as the Son of God is the Great Emancipator. He came to give His life a ransom for many, to deliver man from sin, and to set them free. This sermon explores the freedom that we have in Jesus first by looking at the Pathway to Freedom. Freedom comes through first believing in Jesus Christ, then continuing in His word which results in knowing the truth that sets one free. Jesus then addresses those who think they are free when they are not-- those who do not think they need a savior for they are not enslaved. And Jesus makes the universal pronouncement that anyone who commits sin is a slave to sin-- which mean we've all sinned and are thus in need of emancipation. Not only is sin's penalty paid for by Jesus at the cross, but sin's power over us is broken by Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. He has set us free so that we can now be slaves to God. But the promise of freedom is that we are not only God's slaves, but God's adopted sons, permanent members of his household. Thus we have true freedom in Jesus Christ.
