Why does the writer to the Hebrews describe Abraham as the one "who had received the promises"? He writes here of the testing of Abraham . . . of being called to offer up Isaac as a burnt offering. Why write of receiving promises? Why note that Abraham, a mere man, who was in the midst of an unparalleled test, had "received the promises"? May it be that by grace, every child of God receives His promises with certainty, such that he can and does trust the Lord Jesus Christ with his very soul?
