The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as it has been known began with the publication of the "Book of Mormon" in 1830 by Joseph Smith Jr & his writing assistant Sidney Rigdon. The career of Smith as "God's prophet" supposedly began in 1820 when he was 14 years old where a "First Vision" of two gods appeared to him (God the Father & God the Son Jesus). However Mormonism's own "Journal of Discourses" has numerous contradictions with this vision.
