It is not unfamiliar to have questions for God… To even become irritated with His delays in responding to your cries for wisdom and help. And it is possible because of the silence of God to become offended with him. John the Baptist was a popular figure in Israel… speaking with anointed passion for God… then he found himself buried and seemingly forgotten in Herod's prison and there in that dark, lonely, powerless place he began to have an offense build up in him… He sends a questions to Jesus… are you the Christ or is it someone else we are looking for… The Lord answer is in depth but his last comment serves the most… He says to John, “Blessed is he who is not offended in me.”
I have met a lot of people who are bitter and when you boil down all their reasons for bitterness its clear that they are really bitter with God. Matthew 11:1-6 the Lord Jesus offers a unique blessing to us… He says there “Blessed is he who not offended in me…” And there we find a mystery… Christ has the potential to offend us… to bring us into scandal… to make us bitter… But it is in our power to not let that happen and we are blessed when we don't go that route.
