Having at least suggested that many millions of church members are probably lost, I must defend such an awful proposition. If this is so, what crisis can compare to it? I have said that some of the factors contributing to the multitudes of lost church members are: 1. neglect the Law 2. evidence of repentance is inadequate or non-existent 3. false assurance is wide spread because it is based too much on man's advice as opposed to the Spirit's personal confirmation. Romans 8 is about Assurance; assurance that regenerated people will not come under condemnation despite their ongoing conflict with indwelling sin (internally) 8:1-17; and their ongoing conflict with 'the sufferings of this present time' (externally) 8:18-39. This is about the doctrine of ETERNAL SECURITY.
