We address in these notes Paul’s description and depiction of the antichrist, or “the man of lawlessness”, in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-10. We address matters of historical interpretation of this passage as well as the words of the text itself. The view of the antichrist as an end time political dictator of the world is of fairly recent invention. Down through history the majority view was that the man of sin is manifest in the Roman Catholic papacy. We cite numerous historical persons who wrote of this matter.
