There are some passages of the Scriptures which call us to return to first things and the passage today is one of them. Some of those first things could be expressed in questions such as these: What is your relationship to the God who created you? What is your relationship to sin? Are you a sinner? Does sin really make you happy or is this just an illusion? Are you really free if you are still in the bondage of sin? Is there a price to be paid for sins? Who must pay that price? Can someone else pay the price? What happens if that relationship to sin and bondage is never changed? All of us answer these questions whether we realize it or not. All of this leads to a final question: what were your answers to these questions? Your answers very important. In fact, your answers have eternal consequences. If you still bear the load of your sins, one verse in this passage reveals what the result will be. "…the wages of sin is death…." Thankfully, that is not all the verse says. The rest of the verse reveals the greatest truth which has ever been revealed. The verse continues, "…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Though you are a sinner, God has provided a great gift; the Savior of every sinner, Jesus Christ! – Pastor Schlegel
