The question of purpose or direction is that which has haunted mankind almost from the beginning. Part of the curse placed on Cain on account of his wickedness was a purposeless existence.
Genesis 4:13-14, “And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.”
Cain here laments about his purposeless existence. And that is why he said, “My punishment is too great to bear” (Genesis 4:13). Truly to be in a place where you lack purpose or direction is to suffer the consequences in your body.
