We need to hold fast to our faith. Jews in that day paid a high price for acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah. But they had a Great High Priest and so do we 1. We need a sympathetic high priest - because of our infirmities - these infirmities are not physical but spiritual - the infirmities are not so much our sorrows but our sins 2. We have a sympathetic high priest - we need that kind of high priest and we have it - Christ sympathizes with us in our sins - our sins are the greatest source of our discouragement and problems - Christ allowed himself to be tempted to sin as far as could be done for one who was without sin - he was vexed with the filth of sin of the men he walked with far more than we are vexed with the filth of our sin - if Lot was vexed with the sin of the men of his day and Lot was not known as a spiritual giant, how much more do you think the Righteous One, Christ, was vexed? - Christ knows far more about the guilt and bitterness of sin than we do - we will find comfort when we realize our sins moved Christ to pity us more than it did to anger us - Christ as our great high priest sides with us and does not side against us - there is always someone who will pity us when we have failed and failed miserably - sometimes friends will shut us out for our failures but not so with our sympathetic high priest
