Being named in a will as an heir usually means that one meant something special to the benefactor. It's a way of expressing love, honor, to say that the person named was special. You and I, who were once enslaved to sin and to the elements of this world-- we have become sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ, adopted into God's family. But more than a adopted son, for we are now 'heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.' We are named as heirs in the Father's will. But what do we inherit? Our inheritance involves a a special, intimate, eternal relationship with God the Father where we will live forever in the presence of God. But as co-heirs with Jesus Christ, we inherit EVERYTHING which He inherits. Jesus Christ, who is the 'heir of all things' (Hebrews 1) will one day inherit the 'kingdoms of the world' (Psalm 2) One day, the 'kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ' (Rev. 11:15; Daniel 7). And we too will inherit the kingdom of God and Christ. Since Jesus Christ inherits it ALL, we too will inherit ALL. All eternity will be ours. We have an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade, kept in heaven for us. But how can we know if we are an heir and listed in God's will? Two proofs: The Presence of the Spirit and the Presence of Suffering for Christ. Both are proofs that we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. But when we compare the suffering we might endure now to the glories that will be revealed in us, there is no comparison. You and I are the riches people in the world as heirs of God!!
