Egocentric or Christocentric? It makes all the difference. Dwelling on God's saving works stirs real Christians to praise Him. Ephesians 1:3-14 progresses through the Persons of the Trinity, logically, and chronologically. Ephesians 1:7-12 focuses on the Son. FORGIVENESS IN THE SON (vv. 7-8): "In Christ" is the place of "every spiritual blessing" (v.3) and eternal life. "In Adam" is the curse and death. "Redemption through His blood" secures "the forgiveness of sins," "according to the riches of His grace." KNOWLEDGE IN THE SON (vv. 9-10): Only believers have knowledge of "the mystery of His will," and this came to us by grace alone when we were spiritually ignorant, stupid. That "mystery" is the revelation of cosmic salvation through Christ. This whole thing and all its parts is what God planned from eternity. INHERITANCE IN THE SON (vv. 11-12): Also "in Christ" we have an "inheritance" assigned to us by God.
