The first witnesses of the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ were some women disciples who had followed him from Galilee, ministering to his needs. When most of the men had deserted Jesus at his trial and crucifixion, these were at the cross, witnessed his burial, and were the first to encounter the risen Christ. They saw him, heard him speak, even grabbed his feet, and worshipped him. Other similar incidents occurred over the next 40 days with the eleven male disciples. All could testify that "...which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it..." 1 John 1:1-2. Jesus' bodily resurrection is the ground on which our own resurrection from the dead stands.
