"You see the people gathered in Jerusalem that day wanted a king that would deliver them from Roman tyranny. The Passover feast was the ultimate celebration of deliverance from slavery and oppression, commemorating when God delivered the Hebrews from Egypt with great signs and wonders, so this would have conjured up all sorts of expectations that Jesus was the Messiah sent to deliver the Jews from Roman injustice, but this was not the King Jesus was. He did not come to bring deliverance from Roman oppression, but to bring peace with God. He did not come to conquer the Romans, but to conquer sin and death by offering himself as the perfect sacrifice to satisfy the wrath of his holy Father against sin."
