Let's refresh our minds about where we are in Ephesians. Chapters 1-3 are primarily doctrinal. They teach us what we have in Christ. 4-6 are primarily practical, teaching us how to live according to what we have in Christ.
4:1-16 commands us to walk in unity, because we are one in Christ. 4:17-24 says to walk like the new creature you are in Christ. Get rid of the old man and put on the new man. 4:25-32 says to walk in truth in accordance with the nature of the new man. 5:1-6 says to walk in love as you are loved in Christ.
This passage is the next step in the walking theology of the new man. The theme is walk in light as you are now light in the Lord. The outline is two pairs of contrasting commands.
1 - Don't be Partakers, but Walk as Children of Light (7-10) 2 - Don't Participate, but Expose (11-14)
