Most of what historically taught about Cotton Mather being at the witch trials in Salem is a false history. The history commonly received was put forth in two volumes from Charles Wentworth Upham. It contains so many historically inaccuracies that are brought out in a reply by William Frederick Poole written for the North American Review 1869. The details are very interesting. But almost totally unknown.
