Matthew actually shares with us only 2 of these appearances. Luke records 4. Mark 3. John 4. Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 mentions 4 during these 40 days. Some of these overlap. They add up to 10. The Matthew, Mark, Luke and John don't tell us that Jesus visited his brother James. Paul adds this account. That might let us know that this list may not be exhaustive of all whom Christ visited at this time. Maybe he visited others. Maybe he had a talk with Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead. Maybe a couple of those last converts like Zachaeus and one blind Bartimaeus who had possibly followed Him up to Jerusalem only to see Him die. Maybe he went and spoke alone with his mother Mary or with the other members of his family. We don't know. We are not told.
These ten appearances over 40 days range from the audiences of a single person on three occasions to 2 in one and then from there a small group of seven to 11 to 120 to over 500. These ten appearances are enough to banish the doubts of these skeptical disciples and fix in their minds the truth that Christ had risen from the dead and was Lord and God. The events are enough to propel them into lives devoted to proclaiming the resurrected Christ and forgiveness of sins in His name and Him as the Lord who will one day judge all the earth and to proclaim this to outskirts of the world in which they lived.
