This morning, I want to recommend Someone to you. Let’s turn to Mark 14: 27-31. The context of this passage is the last 24 hours of Jesus life before His death on the cross. He had just finished the Passover Meal, instituted the Lord’s Supper, sang a hymn, and was walking to the Mt. of Olives. He knows what is coming. He tells His disciples to prepare them. They are not really ready for His words to sink in, but He tells them anyway. Their Shepherd who they had surrendered their lives to would be smitten and the sheep would scatter. This would be some tumultuous terrain for the sheep to endure, but Jesus promises to gather His sheep. Before He does so, He will pass through Death, establish the New Covenant in His blood, and walk in the power of an endless life. He has gone before His people and is able to lead us through the most difficult problems in life with peace that surpasses all understanding. The title of the message will be “The Smitten Shepherd and Scattered Sheep.” We will consider 1) The Weakness of the Disciples 2) The Smitten Shepherd and Scattered Sheep 3) the Risen Shepherd and Gathered Sheep.
