'Worship Matters is a practical book with a solid biblical foundation that would benefit any pastor, worship leader, minister of music or church lay-person, regardless the length of tenure of service. Bob breaks his book into four sections: The Leader, The Task, Healthy Tensions, and Right Relationships. In the first several chapters Bob talks about the 'worship leader' and what motivates his service and leadership within the body of Christ. He also addresses the need of the worship leader to be devoted to the study of God's Word and to have the proper musical skills in order that worship will be done in a manner that is consistent with truth and in a skillful manner that brings glory to God.
In the second section, consisting of ten chapters, Bob takes a lengthy, purpose statement-like definition of a worship leader and defines each phrase in detail regarding the tasks and accomplishments of leading worship. This section is very detailed and well thought out. The third section, Healthy Tensions, Bob begins by identify three principles which he tries to follow when addressing these 'healthy tensions': 1) Do what God clearly commands; 2) Don't do what God clearly forbids; and, 3) Use scriptural wisdom for everything else. (I will leave it you to discover what those tensions are by reading this work on your own.) And finally, the last section examined the proper relationship that a worship leader ought to have with the church, his ministry team and pastor.(review exerpt from Driven by Truth)
