Like the other commandments we have studied, the 8th commandment is not specific to just stealing. It is rich with meaning and pregnant with cultural implications. It tells us how God views the ownership of property and how we as Christians are to look out for and/or help our others' financial state.
The 8th commandment ties the physical with the spiritual and advocates the right to personal property. There is something Godly about owning and improving property. There is materialism involved in Christianity. God chooses to bless us with possessions and means to produce, we in turn are obligated to be content with what we have and be good stewards with what He has given us.
In short, the 8th commandment tells us as Christians how to acquire and care for the items God has bestowed upon us and how we are to help our neighbors do likewise.
