On a cold January day in 1989, we buried my dear father in the frozen hard ground at the age of 68. St. Bernard's cemetery was covered with snow and ice. The priest said a few prayers, no doubt quickened by the cold, and the mourners turned to go back to their lives. My mother, so disillusioned and saddened by the loss of her best friend of nearly 45 years, said, "Is that it? It's so final." No, mom, that was not it. There is a world of spiritual reality just beyond the veil of this flesh. Brothers and sisters, keep your eyes on the prize, the Lord God whom we love. One day our faith shall be sight, and we shall fall down before His nail-scarred feet and worship Him in a world of love forever. Until then, keep the faith once delivered unto the saints. God opens the eyes of our hearts to see spiritual reality. He opened the eyes of the two on the road to Emmaus to the Scriptures and His risen self. He tenderly opened the eyes of Mary Magdalene. There is a spiritual reality that we cannot yet see. It takes faith to believe in spiritual reality. "Seeing is believing" is the motto of the secular world. "Believing is seeing" is the motto of faith.
