This procession struggling out of Jerusalem on Friday morning was nothing like the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem the previous Sunday afternoon! The march from the Fortress Antonio to Golgotha (The Place of the Skull) seemed anything but Triumphant. Yes, there were crowds following the King of the Jews, but they were… Roman soldiers pushing & prodding Him, led by their Centurion. Women weeping for Jesus (no more Hosannah's). And there was our Savior, bleeding, stumbling, under the weight of His cross. And then, a Passover pilgrim, Simon of Cyrene was dragged out of the crowd by the soldiers, & forced to take a part of Jesus' cross, following the Galilean rabbi out to Calvary. And…there were also two criminals, each with their crosses. At Calvary, the soldiers crucified them. And the air began to fill with mocking & taunting & sneering & cursing & groaning…& weeping. Derision & pain & mourning. But not just these bitter sounds, because rising above the mocking & taunting & sneering & cursing & groaning & weeping, the Lamb of God – the Lord of Glory, spoke…
