“Whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Col. 3:17). Beautiful words! We want our lives to be about Jesus. We want to be to God a “sacrifice of thanksgiving” (Ps. 116:17).
But it is hard to apply this motto in the abstract.
In the next nine verses Paul applies Christ-like living to the husband-wife relationship, the parent-child relationship, and the master-servant relationship. In a few words, Paul applies to our closest and most difficult relationships, his prior teaching to put off the old man and put on the new man. Relationships are often the proving grounds of the believer's life of godliness. Put more bluntly, your relationship with God becomes concrete in your domestic and vocational life.
In the next sermon we will begin by looking at the marriage relationship.
Here, we consider several dynamics of cultivating godliness in the three relationships described in these verses.
