On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, publicly making His claim to be the Messiah. His procession was very simple and humble. About the same time, Pilate would have been coming into Jerusalem to reinforce the Roman garrison there in case there was an uprising during the Passover celebration. So the people were confronted with two very different parades, so to speak – one bringing true peace and the other boasting the power of the Roman Empire. Today, we are confronted with the choice of following Jesus, the Prince of Peace, or following "parades" of this world like those of power, of the rich and famous, or of the selfish and proud. Only Jesus can give us the true peace that we need. Which "parade" will we choose to join?
