What does John the Baptist mean when he calls Jesus "The Lamb of God"? This title takes us back to the Passover lamb, first described in Exodus 12. This lamb has to be blameless, set apart from the rest of the flock for a unique purpose. This lamb has to die, for only when its blood has been applied to the household can there be deliverance from judgement. Unlike any other Passover lamb, however, Jesus didn't remain dead. As we see this resurrected Lamb in Revelation 4, we too are called to worship Him.
